Castle Senior County League Promotion Play off. This game which was played in Na Gael pitch in Tralee finished deadlocked , not even 20 minutes of extra time could separate the sides and they will have to do it all again to find out who will meet Beaufort in the promotion decider . Castle dominated play in the first half but would have been disappointed to end the half with only five points, three from Alan Fitzgerald and one each from Liam Maunsell and Anton Kelliher. Beaufort finished the half on two points but were denied a goal by Castle Keeper Shane Kenny who made a fantastic save.
Fossa narrowed the lead with an early point but Castle responded with two from Alan Fitzgerald, then a high ball into the Castle square ended up in the net , this gave Fossa renewed hope , Anton Kelliher put Castle ahead again , but each time Castle went ahead Fossa levelled again , and when the whistle blew for the end of normal time Castle were on 0-09 , Fossa on 1-06.

Fifteen minutes elapsed with both sides failing to score , then Brandon Hoare cut through the Renard defence and placed the ball in front of the oncoming Maurice Slattery who slotted it to the net. Christy Smith was introduced for Kevin Kennedy who received a black card. It was twenty minutes into the half before Renard registered their first point , the momentum swung to them once more and they narrowed the lead to two points. Clement Crean was introduced for injured Jordan Quirke. Castle were determined to hold on, Maurice James Fitzerald intercepted a Renard kick out and he found Alan MacNamara who fisted the ball over the bar to increase his personally tally to 1-05 and put Castle back in a three point lead before the referee blew the final whistle.

Final Score - Castlegregory 0-10, Ballylongford 0-13.

Both teams had plenty to play for going into this game with Castlegregory chasing promotion and Ballylongford chasing points to get out of the relegation zone. It was Ballylongford that showed the greater hunger and it was they who were first to get on the scoreboard with a point from Joe McCarthy , Enda Whealan pointed for Castle . Ballylongford kicked three more points one each from Brendan Bambury, Kenneth Sheehy and Ciaran O Connor . Castles  failure to take their chances during this period of the game would have a big bearing on the overall result , Micheál Ó Shea was winning possession at mid field , they had several scoring attempts but none reached the target until Shane Hennessy finally put one over in the 20th minute, Anton kelliher and Joe O Connor  added two more for Castle but Kieran Mulvihill  put Ballylongford ahead again before the half time whistle. Senior County League Round 5 - May 17th 2014 in Knocknagoshel 7pm

Final Score - Castlegregory 0-12, Knocknagoshel 0-10.

Castle had a well earned win in Knocknagoshel on Saturday evening. Due to the unavailability of a number of players they travelled with a very depleted panel, and we would like to thank players who made personal sacrifices to be there. They put in a very determined performance the spectators were treated to a very competitive and entertaining game. Castle were 6 pts to 5 up at half time, the early scores coming from Shane Hennessy and Anton Kelliher with two each, Colm O Mahony and Timothy Moriarty with points each.

Knocknagoshel fought back hard in the second half and went ahead by two points, at this stage it looked like the momentum was with the home side and it was looking ominous for the visitors, but Castle dug deep and added further points , one from Anton Kelliher and one from Colm O Mahony to draw level, Micheál Ó Shea and Shane Hennessy were dominant at midfield and Colm O Connor and Anton Kelliher were winning breaks , Gavin O Connor was coming forward and linking up with Liam Maunsell and creating scoring chances, Anton Kelliher kicked two more points and Colm O Connor kicked from distance to put Castle ahead by three .

Knocknagoshel didn't give up but with the clock running down they needed a goal to get anything out of the game, the Castle defence stood up to the challenge with the Fitzerald brothers Gearoid and Nicholas, Enda Whealan , Colm Sills Joe O Connor, and keeper Shane Kenny all making sure that goal was not conceded . Knocknagoshel did narrow the lead to two points but Castle held out to come away with the valuable league points. One unfortunate occurrence in the game was the injury sustained by Greg Dowling, Greg had only returned to play for Castle and lined out at centre back until his injury in the first half. We hope the injury is not too serious and we wish him a speedy recovery. Also a mention to the subs who came on and all contributed to a great team performance, Niall O Mahony, Brandon Hoare , Maurice Slattery and Alan McNamara.

Daragh Carmody added a second point for Na Gaeil , both from frees . Then what proved to be a turning point in the game, Jamie Lowham after bursting through the Castle defence was deemed to have been fouled in the Castle Square and Darragh Carmody was on target with the resulting penalty. Lowham himself fisted a point to narrow to gap before the half time whistle. Half Time Castle 0-07, Na Gaeil 1-03.

Na Gaeil had put themselves in a very good position going into the second half and they made the most of their wind advantage with early scores, one from Diarmuid Hurley, and two from Mike Griffin .
